Subject: Prescription Drug Monitoring Program Reporting Requirements

The Rhode Island Department of Health would like to remind all data submitters and dispensers of our Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) reporting requirements. To remain compliant, dispensers with a Rhode Island Controlled Substance Registration (CSR) should complete the following: COLLECT AND REPORT • Collect prescription data in compliance with the Rhode Island Department of Health User Dispenser Guide. • Report: If you hold an active Controlled Substance Registration (CSR), you must report to the PDMP within 24 hours of dispensing a controlled substance prescription (schedules II-V and/or opioid antagonists). If you do not dispense any controlled substance prescriptions or opioid antagonists, you must still report “zero fills” to the PDMP. CANCEL CSR • Cancel CSR: We do not offer waivers for reporting “zero fills” to the PDMP. If you are not dispensing controlled substances and/or opioid antagonists, and you wish to discontinue reporting “zero fills” to the RI PDMP, you must cancel your CSR by contacting DOH.Elicense@health.ri.gov. It is required by state law that pharmacies report dispensing data for controlled substances dispensed in Schedules II - V and Opioid Antagonists EVERY 24 HOURS. Failure to do so will result in a complaint filed against your pharmacy and/or pharmacist license by the RI Department of Health. If you need any assistance or have any questions, please feel free to contact Chief Implementation Aide Victoria Bravo at 401-222-2507.
